Stainless steel AISI 440B / EN 1.4122 / 40Х13МН
The relatively affordable cost of AISI 440b stainless steel, combined with its very attractive qualities, makes this brand of steel quite popular.
It is supplied in the form of wire rod, rods, drawn wire and rolled products.
Main Features
Aisi440b contains 0.9% carbon, which provides it with sufficient strength. At the same time, the high chromium content, with an indicator of 18%, contributes to a higher corrosion resistance compared to other brands. Stainless steel shows good resistance in mildly corrosive environments, but requires cathodic protection for use in salt water. It acquires the greatest resistance to corrosion when the surface is polished.
AISI 440b steel can be processed by chip removal or free forging, which is performed at a temperature of 1180 to 950 degrees, followed by slow cooling.
Stainless steel this grade is not weldable.
Applications
Rolled metal, made of AISI 440b steel, is used for the manufacture of fasteners, pump shafts, cutting tools, food industry equipment, automotive parts and components for mechanical engineering.
