Weather resistant, CORTEN steel was developed in the USA in the 1930s. Complies with European standard EN10025-5.

The steel is alloyed with:

– Chromium, which increases corrosion resistance.

– Phosphorus, which contributes to the oxidation of the surface.

– Copper, which provides a specific color.

Special properties

Structural Corten steel can be bought in Ukraine in the form of rolled products, which are characterized by:

– Resistance to deformation.

– Ease of processing in various ways.

– High structural strength.

– Durability.

At the same time, the price of Corten steel is relatively affordable.

In addition, EN10025-5 stands out for its high resistance to weathering. This is due to the formation of an oxide film on the surface, the formation of which is provoked by the chemical composition of the material, under the influence of moisture. The resulting patina covers all the pores in the metal, preventing the penetration of oxygen into them. Therefore, the material does not require painting.

Patina develops over two to three years, gradually acquiring darker shades. To stop the color change on a specific shade, structures can be coated with a colorless varnish.
