Copper-nickel-zinc gets its name from its resemblance to silver. From German, nickel silver is translated as “new silver”. At the same time, the price of nickel silver is significantly lower than that of the precious metal.

Differs in a silvery color with a greenish tint.

The material is 38% copper, 18-20% zinc and 13.3-16.5% from nickel. The share of various impurities accounts for no more than 0.9%.

Special Properties

With the similarity of mechanical properties, nickel silver sheet can be bought cheaper than cupronickel. The alloy stands out for its resistance to corrosion manifestations, high strength, good ductility, both in cold and hot working by pressure.

Applications

Nickel silver can be bought for the manufacture of steam and water fittings, elements of precision instruments, medical instruments, guitar frets, silver-plated cutlery. Currently, due to its low cost, it is used more often than cupronickel in the manufacture of jewelry, medals and orders. The alloy also serves to make filigree and enamel.
