17-4PH stainless steel / EN 1.4548
Steel 1.4548 is a martensitic precipitating, hardenable chromium-nickel stainless steel with a high copper content. Differs in the high level of viscosity and durability. Strength can be increased by cold forming followed by hard precipitation treatment.
Special properties
The corrosion resistance level of 1.4548 is approximately on par with other chromium-nickel steel grades. However, if this stainless steel is at risk of stress corrosion cracking, tensile heat treatment should be excluded.
Gas welding can be used, without preheating. However, after welding, to obtain the desired properties, a procedure of re-hardening by precipitation will be required.
Applications
The acceptable cost of stainless steel and high performance properties make it in demand in the food, metalworking, aerospace, mining, nuclear and petrochemical industries, and other areas where special requirements for strength and resistance to corrosion manifestations may be imposed on steel products.
